I recently saw mk.gee in Detroit. I felt there was joy and rage all mixed up together in the young folks at the show. It left me wondering about the real effects of liberty or Covid-19 and of the 2-party system in Los Ustados Unidos (two parties, what?!?).
Elise asked me if I liked the show. I was not sure.
mk.gee played DNM probably 4 times, and ended the show playing it once again. People was trippin’ more than Mahomes switching to T-Mobile, Snoop!
Lyrics
Okay, don’t talk about it
It’s better if we don’t talk about it
You never pull me, don’t need to shout it
Maybe I should swallow my pride
Live without it
I don’t believe it
All the things that you said
When I said, would you mean it
I hate to waste time, hey, ain’t a secret
I came to erase it all down
And just leave it
Remember when we talked about it? How come
Remember when you talk about it with no one
I’ll be on the fritz about it
Because you don’t know how to be honest
And I promise
I can’t believe it
All the things that you said
When I said, would you mean it?
I hate to waste time, hey, ain’t a secret
I came to erase it all down
And just leave it
So what?
Well, what are these lyrics actually saying? I don’t know, except they seem to about not talking, about not communicating (communicasting?), about not taking the time to even try. This is the crux. In world where the media communicates in trigger words, maybe it’s time for the rest of us to take the time to listen to the other humans we meet and have more than a “one-way conversation.”
